Integrations
Models, mail and file storage — the outside systems that are not data sources.
Outside systems that are not data sources: a model to ask about a check, a mail server to send one, a drive to keep files in.
Seven kinds, in three groups.
| Group | Integration | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Models | OpenAI | Ask a model about a check, in words rather than in filters |
| Azure OpenAI | The same, hosted in your own Microsoft tenant | |
| Claude | Ask a model about a check, in words rather than in filters | |
| Ollama | Ask a model that runs inside your own network, so nothing leaves it | |
| SMTP server | Send a check's result, or a plan built from one, as mail | |
| Outlook | Read a mailbox, so a check can be built from what is in it | |
| Files | OneDrive | Read and write files kept in a drive rather than on this machine |
Secrets are encrypted with the same key file as a data source password and come back as bullets. Leaving the bullets keeps the stored value.
#Models
Each model integration asks for an API key, a model, and where to reach the provider.
Two fields are worth explaining.
Fast model — "Used to design checks, plan queries, write SQL and read schemas. Leave blank to use the model above." The work Mosaic does with a model is not all the same shape: writing a paragraph about a run benefits from the better model, while planning a query does not. Naming a cheaper, faster model here is usually worth it.
Base URL — "Change only for a proxy or a compatible endpoint." Leave it alone unless you route through a gateway.
#Azure OpenAI
No base URL; the address is assembled from three fields instead:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Endpoint | From the resource in the Azure portal |
| Deployment name | "What the model was called when it was deployed, which is not always the model's own name." |
| API version | Leave blank for the default. Structured answers need a recent version |
This is the route to use where Microsoft is already the licence you hold.
#Ollama
Runs inside your own network, so nothing leaves it. The address is filled in pointing at Ollama on the same machine, and the model must be one already pulled on that server. The API key is only needed if a proxy in front of it asks for one.
#The model list
Each model integration can read the list of models the provider will let it use, using the values in the form rather than anything stored. If the address has changed since the key was saved, the key is deliberately not sent, and Mosaic says so:
The saved API key was not sent, because the address has changed since it was saved. Type the key again to use it there.
A name the provider does not list is allowed but flagged — "Pick one from it, unless a gateway expects this name."
#Mail and files
SMTP server takes a host, port, username, password and a from-address. This is what a trigger's email output needs.
Outlook and OneDrive each take a tenant ID, a client ID and a client secret, plus the mailbox or drive to use. OneDrive left blank uses the mailbox owner's own drive.
#Turning AI on
Nothing involving a model works until an owner turns it on for the workspace, under Workspace settings:
Off by default, and off for everybody in the workspace until an owner turns it on. It covers the assistant, a check's chat and fast checks. While it is off nothing in Mosaic contacts a model — the server refuses, not only the buttons.
That last clause matters. The switch is enforced on the server; hiding the buttons is a courtesy, not the control.
#Which features need which licence
Two bands:
| Band | Covers |
|---|---|
| Model features | Asking a Check a question, written run summaries, source descriptions |
| Advanced | The global assistant, the Composer, the semantic layer, knowledge sweeps |
The first is included from Pro upwards, the second from Business.
#Deleting one
An integration a Check names cannot be deleted without confirmation: "Delete "OpenAI"? 3 check(s) name it, and will stop being able to use it."
#Choosing which a Check may use
Each Check names which connected systems it may use, under Integrations in its settings: "Which connected systems this check may use. Configure them under Integrations in the sidebar." That is an admin's decision.
