Your data and deleting your account

Download a copy of what Mosaic holds about your account, or delete the account yourself.

Both are under Settings → Account, and both are about your account only. The Checks, sources and results in a workspace belong to the workspace, not to the person who built them.

#Download my data

Your data → Download my data saves a JSON file with everything Mosaic holds about your account:

  • your profile: name, email, when it was created, your settings, whether two-factor authentication is on
  • the workspaces you belong to, and your role in each
  • your sign-ins: when, which browser, from which network address
  • the API keys you created (their names and prefixes, never the keys)
  • your comments on exceptions, and the exceptions assigned to you
  • what you did, as the audit trail recorded it

Passwords, two-factor secrets and recovery codes are not in it. The download is recorded in the audit trail.

#Delete account

Delete account removes your account and signs you out everywhere. It cannot be undone.

Before it does anything, Mosaic tells you what it will take with it:

  • Workspaces only you use are deleted too, with everything in them. They are listed first.
  • Workspaces you share stay, with all their Checks and results. You simply stop being a member.
  • If you are the only owner of a workspace other people use, deleting is refused until you make someone else an owner, or delete that workspace. A team should not lose the ability to manage its own data because one person left.

Then you type your email address to confirm. If you signed in more than ten minutes ago, Mosaic asks for your password as well. With two-factor authentication on, it asks you to sign out and sign in again instead, because a password alone would skip the second factor.

#What is kept

The audit trail keeps its entries, because it is how a workspace proves who did what, but your name and email are replaced by Deleted account in every one of them. Comments you wrote and exceptions assigned to you stay with the workspace, no longer pointing at you.

On an installation of your own, the last remaining account cannot be deleted: an installation with no accounts would ask the next visitor to claim it. Uninstall Mosaic instead.

#How long the audit trail is kept

By default, forever. To keep it for a set period, set MOSAIC_AUDIT_RETENTION_DAYS (for example 365). Entries older than that are deleted, checked at most once an hour.
